Ham Radio
Its April 2005, and I'm Back on the Air, 160 thru 12 meters!
Yes, the bug has bitten again, and lately I've been having fun DXing.
Currently, have a 275 ft piece of wire running across the gulch.
The antenna tuner is a big silver-plated coil I got at a hamfest 15 years ago
and a 175pf variable cap, both lying on the table. My hands were getting sore from so many RF burns, so finally put an insulated knob on the capacitor!
Maybe I'll actually build a "real" tuner eventually.
With help from N4UQ I have my Alpha PA-77 running, so expect to have some
power on very soon. More antennas projected for the near future.
I'm not a QRP kind of guy, but with 100 watts have been doing pretty well
on the DX bands.
My CW "fist" is pretty awful, but the DX stations have been very patient with me. Thanks to all of them.
The Yaesu FT-900 is a pretty decent rig combined with a Timewave DSP-59+ digital filter.
